Apostle Paul once thought he knew it all. He was on his ways, with the full support of the religious elite behind him, to persecute those who claimed to know the truth. The Apostle Paul once thought himself to be a religious leader of religious leaders, skilled in the art of judgment and condemnation. His name was SAUL then. Like another Saul we knew in the Old testament who also was King, this Saul also trusted in his self effort and was ruled by his arrogance, and religious egotistical pride. This is why he could stand by and watch another human being (Stephen) be stoned to death for simply bearing witness of the truth.
Well, as we are well aware, those in darkness hate the light… because it shows them how wicked and wrong they are.
So Saul was on his way, set in his ways, to go KILL the movement of Christ. Then, all of a sudden, a great LIGHT knocked him down a notch or two. In fact, this light totally humbled him. This LIGHT put him face down in the dirt.
AND WHAT WAS THIS LIGHT?
John 3:21
But he that doeth TRUTH has come to the LIGHT. (The Light is the TRUTH)
Once the TRUTH was revealed to the Apostle Paul he realized that LOVE does not PERSECUTE OTHERS. It was then the Apostle Paul was stricken BLIND.
To be Blind is a symbol of not “seeing the TRUTH”… to be blind in scripture means to be ignorant of the TRUTH.
Isaiah 56:10
His watchmen are blind: they are all ignorant.
So once the TRUTH appeared to Paul he realized he was ignorant of the TRUTH. It was then he was SET STRAIGHT.
Acts 9:11
And the Lord said unto him (Paul), Arise, and go into the street which is called STRAIGHT…
Psalm 5:8
Lead me, O Lord (TRUTH)… make thy way (the truth) STRAIGHT (apparent, easily understood) before my face.
So a Blinded PAUL (ignorant of the TRUTH) began his journey toward that “straight and narrow gate” of WISDOM.
Proverbs 24:7
Wisdom is too high for a fool: he openeth not his mouth in the GATE (way of wisdom).
His EYES (understanding) were covered by SCALES which is why he could not SEE (Understand the TRUTH).
Ephesians 1:18
The EYES of your UNDERSTANDING…
It wasn’t until the SCALES fell from his EYES that he could SEE.
So what is it that COVERS our UNDERSTANDING that keeps us from THE TRUTH?
The answer is our foolish PRIDE. (Thinking we know it all. This was Paul’s problem. Pictured by him riding his high horse and believing it was his job to correct and punish others.) – The SCALES that kept him BLIND was his IGNORANT PRIDE.
Job 41:15
His SCALES are his PRIDE, shut up together as with a close SEAL.
IGNORANT PRIDE is pictured in scripture as SCALES and a SEAL. Both of which keep the TRUTH locked away from our understanding.
Revelation 5:2
And I saw a strong angel proclaiming with a loud voice, Who is worthy to open the book (THE TRUTH), and to loose the SEALS (MANKIND’S IGNORANT PRIDE) thereof?
However, once the SCALES (Paul’s PRIDE) fell from his EYES (understanding)… Once his pride was taken out of the equation… PAUL COULD SEE (he understood the truth and had received wisdom (which is a tree of life).
WISDOM is the TREE OF LIFE we all must regain. It is SEALED up by our foolish pride.
Proverbs 3:18
WISDOM is a tree of life to them that lay hold upon her: and happy is every one that retaineth her.
So SAUL, a name which literally means “desire” became PAUL, which literally means “small” or humbled… No longer did PAUL see himself as greater or smarter than others.
The SELF exalted SAUL was knocked off his high horse, realized he was blind to the TRUTH. He was SET STRAIGHT and when the SCALES (his pride) fell from his EYES (understanding) he FINALLY SAW THE LIGHT (TRUTH).
The book (TRUTH) was no longer sealed up. The TRUTH set him free!
The moral of this story is we may think we know it all. But when the TRUTH is revealed to us, it will knock us off our high horse, change our nature (name), humble us, set us straight, and finally allow us to SEE!
This is what many refer to as being BORN AGAIN. Or the great day of the Lord (revealing of the existing one)
Isaiah 29:18
And in that day shall the deaf hear the words of the BOOK (Truth), and the eyes of the blind (Ignorant) shall see (become WISE) out of obscurity, and out of darkness.
The scriptures are an allegory, they are also a mystery. The Letter (literal interpretations) kills (make you ignorant) but the SPIRIT of these STORIES give you LIFE INDEED.
DIG DEEPER AND YOU WILL FIND THAT TREASURE THAT HAS BEEN HIDDEN IN YOUR FIELD (your mind).

(Don’t forget to check out my novel, The Calling… at http://www.jacobisrael.org. It is one story that will stay with you and help you see that we are all much more than we have been told.)
Hey Jacob
in reading over your answer above the point is Paul was not riding a horse at all. No where does it say he was tradition has told us that. He Most likely was walking and fell to the earth no where does it say He was riding a horse tradition has blinded us when reading to see things that are not even there. My point was to always go back and see what it says for our selves study to show your self approved and always prepared. Just a little thing some one showed me and I am sharing with you. No more no less.
David, once again thank you for taking the time to comment. And I find it fascinating how many people have made the bible the idol it is today. You are so right, we are often told stories and taught variations to certain stories. Much like Paul being knocked off his horse… Before the scriptures were written we are told they were simply stories handed down from one generation to the next. And there are many other stories and scriptures that didn’t make the 66 canon grade. But even in these stories and Traditions there are symbols. The bottom line is, the story is about a religious man who believed he knew the truth and then had the revelation of it. Being blinded, led by a child, scales on his eyes, etc… It is all symbolism. I simply appreciated seeing it played out in another way. I thank you for pointing that out. We are always learning. Yet the truth of this parable remains the same regardless of whether there is a horse or not. Much love to you man and I hope you do take the time to read other essays here and are led to share more. Jacob
Hey Jacob
To tell you the truth it is much more simple. Just the simple truth that he fell to the earth as opposed to falling off a horse is the simple truth. I was not trying to correct you. I was just making a point that was made to me many years ago by some old woman about the same passage. after she corrected me I after ward always took more time when reading scripture to see if I was reading it or reading it through the eyes of tradition. Like I said Jacob no big hidden revelation just an observation that I hoped would help you as it did me. No more no less some times we read more into peoples motives
then are really there also.
David, how have you been man? Did you catch my latest video post… Hope you are well, Jacob
Go back and read the scripture Paul was knocked to the ground not off a horse.
After all it is the truth we are after is it not? Or just maybe that is what we want to believe.
The truth is not something all have and they just dont know it. The truth is something none have and
they need to receive it. Something to think about.
Thankds David, one thing I have learned, is that there is always more to learn. Of course, I know Paul was knocked to the EARTH, so I wasn’t sure why you felt the need to correct me. So I thought, hhhmn, there must be another reason. I thought, don’t jump to conclusions and say, well “Duh, David, but he was riding his horse and was knocked off it or fell off it”… so it is a mute point… However, that was my first carnal reaction. My second thought was, there must be a reason. Perhaps there is more for me to learn about this story. And the word EARTH struck me… When ADAM sinned he was cast out of the garden to toil in the earth, which would produce nothing but thorns. So I thought within myself, is there perhaps more… So I went and looked the passage up again as you suggested. Then I went and looked the word EARTH up and WHAMO!!!! — Let’s look at it together…
4 And he fell to the earth, and heard a voice saying unto him, Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me?
(Now someone else we KNOW who thought he knew it all, and thought he was GOD, also was cast into the EARTH)
Satan/Man’s Carnal Ego fell from heaven, cast into the earth, time and time again we see mention of pride thought being cast down into the earth… Which is clearly what happened in Paul’s case… I know it may sound like a stretch, but look at the next verse…
5 And he said, Who art thou, Lord? And the Lord said, I am Jesus whom thou persecutest: it is hard for thee to kick against the pricks.
WHO IS THE PERSECUTER?
Revelation 12:13
And when the dragon saw that he was cast unto the earth, he persecuted the woman which brought forth the man child.
But that’s not all… in fact … it is the PROUD RELIGIOUS carnal man that persecutes the TRUTH (jesus).
Luke 21:12
But before all these, they shall lay their hands on you, and persecute you, delivering you up to the synagogues, and into prisons, being brought before kings and rulers for my name’s sake.
Now, I went to look the word Earth up in the Strongs, but the word literally means earth… However, when I defined the word FELL… more evidence appeared.
to descend from a higher place to a lower
to fall (either from or upon)
to be thrust down
metaph. to fall under judgment, came under condemnation
Isn’t that exactly the story? Very cool how it all comes together and how many wonderful layers there are.
So David, I do want to thank you for sharing. Because it allowed me to see another beautiful truth hidden within this allegory.

Interesting, I never realized that was what was all behind his name change from Saul to Paul. He is a good example of how any of us can turn things around from the ego we used to be and change for the better. Fantastic analysis!

“Real knowledge is to know the extent of one’s ignorance” – Confucius
If one is ignorant they would not know the truth or the extent of their ignorance. If one is ignorant they would believe they know better and have no clue that they have rejected the truth… “me” 🙂 Thanks for the comment and I hope you do read some other articles on here.
